Scout Wavefront Topographer takes a video of the cornea

WaveLenses: A better vision alternative.

No two fingerprints are identical and the same is true for your eyes, especially the cornea (the clear tissue that a contact lens sits upon). Each cornea has its own distinct shape and texture, just like a fingerprint. So it makes sense that a contact lens should fit this unique corneal shape, providing Hi-Definition like vision.

Wave Lenses are designed from your corneal “fingerprint”. Wave’s special wavefront video picture and software digitally maps your cornea in thousands of areas. This map data and the Wave’s special design software helps create a custom lens that follows almost every tiny shape on your cornea and correct for 'abberations' (see picture on right). WaveLenses offer great comfort and sharp optics. Many unsuccessful contact lens wearers are successful WaveLens users.

The Kurtin Eye Care Center may use Wave Contact Lens Design Software for patients requiring correction of near, distance, astigmatism, bifocal, keratoconus or after corneal surgery. WaveLens technology is also used to create custom Orthokeratology lenses or CRT, a non-surgical vision correction procedure.

Wave Lenses are custom ordered following the thousands of points along your eyes' front surface (cornea). All parameters are specified by the doctor, who must be certified in fitting Wave Lenses. They come in soft or rigid gas permeable types and cost about five to six hundred dollars per pair which is backed up by our fit satisfaction program-- We will work with you, to satisfy your needs!                                                                                                                                                                                                 These are maps of the cornea. Color changes show                                                                                                                                                                                        'abberation' locations on the eye (upper left).                                                                                                                                                                                         WaveLenses correct for abberations (right picture).

We design WaveLenses for:

  • Single Vision: Distance vision until your bifocals are necessary for up close activities like reading.

  • Bifocal: Distance and near vision with little need for reading glasses.

  • Astigmatism: WaveLenses mirrors your eye's astigmatism (football) shape, thus the fit is exacting.

  • Keratoconus, After-Lasik and Corneal Transplants: Most in need of Wave’s custom “match the cornea” design philosophy.

  • Orthokeratology (Wave CRT): A non-surgical, temporary vision correction procedure that allows most “Ortho K” users to go all day without lenses or glasses.

Typical lenses only follow part of the corneal shape, and may not align exactly, especially in the periphery. This causes discomfort (below).
