Practice Philosophy:

"I believe you can still go to a private eye doctor who takes the time to listen and understand your needs. The more you know and ask about your eye health or vision, the better understanding you will have concerning any treatment. Maintaining a friendly, courteous and experienced staff is crucial to providing your care. We strive to keep your fees reasonable given the high level of care and state-of-the-art technology provided. "           -- Dr. Kurtin

Mission:

We are devoted to maintaining our excellence in care and attention given to each and every human being by:

° Using state-of-the-art technology to better diagnose and treat vision and medical eye disorders
° Working with other health care providers, when patient referrals are necessary, who have proven their trust to us
° Attending continuing education courses every year relating to the latest innovations and treatment in eye care
° Making new and current patients feel welcome at every visit and provide them with clean, modern surroundings

About Dr. Kurtin
, Founder, The Kurtin Eye Care Center, Plano, Texas

In 1974, Steven C. Kurtin worked his way at becoming an optician filling prescriptions, making eyeglasses and fabricating gas permeable contact lenses. After graduating with a B.S. in Applied Biology, with honors, and Psychology as a second major from Ferris State University in Michigan, he attended the University Eye Institue at the University of Houston in Texas, where he graduated and received his Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) in 1985. Dr. Kurtin is certified by the International Board of Examiners in Optometry for the Treatment and Management of Ocular Disease (Therapeutic Optometry). He is credentialed as an Optometric Glaucoma Specialist for the diagnosis, treatment and management of Glaucoma. He also holds certification for contact lens treatment from The National Eye Research Foundation (1986). Other certifications include Corneal Refractive Therapy (FDA Approved 2002) and the newest Synergeyes® and WaveLenses for treating disorders resulting from LASIK, RK, Keratoconus, Keratoplasty, among other issues. Dr. Kurtin also provides Managed Vision Surgery with some of Dallas's finest eye surgeons.

In 1990's, he developed the MultiFokus® GP Contact Lens for people needing bifocals, which is available nationally.
He continues to be one of the leading authorities providing care to those with Presbyopia, a condition which usually occurs from natural changes, as we age, making close vision blur.

For more than 20 years, he has helped children overcome visually related learning problems---a probable factor relating to attention deficit disorders. Did you know if a child 'sees 20/20', they may still have trouble processing visual information that facilitates learning, resulting in poor academic performance? When, if fact, these children are very bright!

In 1999 , Dr. Kurtin gained recognition for a lifetime of achievement as a health care professional by being invited and accepted into the prestigious National Registry of Who's Who in America's Healthcare. He has been awarded several Reader's Choice Awards for 'Best Optometrist' in Collin County. And, for many years, most recently in 2007, was picked as one of America's Top Optometrists by The Consumer's Research Council of America in Washington D.C.

Dr. Kurtin loves to spend time with his family, is an accomplished singer, song-writer and plays piano. When on vacation, he prefers hiking in the mountains.
